22-Acre Estate in the San Joaquin Valley

When we first stepped onto this 22-acre property in the San Joaquin Valley, we knew it would be unlike anything we had tackled before. The scale was massive, the landscaping was exquisite, and the potential was undeniable.

They weren’t looking for basic path lights or a quick lighting fix. They wanted an elevated experience that matched the beauty of their ponds, rare birds, custom bridges, and exotic plantings.

A Custom Approach for a One-of-a-Kind Property

To meet the challenge, we designed a comprehensive landscape lighting plan centered around FX Luminaire’s Luxor system — the gold standard in outdoor lighting technology. We installed over 500 zoning and dimming fixtures and connected them with 25 linking transformers, allowing for complete control of light levels and moods across the entire estate.

We used our signature lighting design elements:

Uplighting to dramatize towering trees and architectural features

Downlighting for soft, moonlit effects across gardens and open spaces

Pathway lighting to guide movement and ensure safety

Under-ledge lighting to add warmth and depth to the hardscape

Bistro lighting to turn patios into vibrant gathering spaces

Every light was placed with intention — to highlight, to invite, and to delight.

Industry Recognition and a Personal Milestone

The FX Luminaire team themselves visited the site for a full photoshoot, selecting this project to showcase in their national marketing materials. For our small, family-owned business, it was a proud moment.

What started as a massive canvas of possibility is now a beautiful sanctuary for our clients and their guests to enjoy.

This was our biggest and boldest project, and we’re honored to have brought it to light.

A Tale of Transformation: Outdoor Lighting in Loomis

When we first met this client, they were in a tough spot with their outdoor lighting. They had two systems: an aging relic from the property’s original design and a patchwork of more recent additions. Over the years, we helped with repairs, replacing lamps, troubleshooting, and keeping things running as well as possible. But one recurring frustration loomed over every conversation: their lights would fail whenever it rained.

The client had reached their limit. They were done with the headaches and tired of outdated, piecemeal lighting, so they decided to invest in a brand-new landscape lighting system. But this time, they didn’t want just any outdoor lighting. They wanted an elegant, unified design that complemented their spectacular landscaping and modern lifestyle.

Enter the Luxor System

FX Luminaire’s premium Luxor landscape lighting system was a perfect fit. The client loved the idea of a smart-home, automated system that gave them the same control over their outdoor lighting as their indoors. And when they learned Luxor could incorporate color lighting, they were sold. No more wrestling with Christmas lights or manually adjusting for holidays—the system would let them create dazzling themes with the touch of a button.

We designed a hybrid Luxor system that perfectly balances functionality and budget. Color lights lined the driveway and front walkway, providing a vibrant and welcoming entry. Around the majestic oaks and across the broader landscape, we used Luxor ZD white lights to enhance the property’s natural beauty.

To make their experience even more unique, we crafted custom lighting themes for holidays and special occasions. With just a tap, the client can now celebrate Christmas, Fourth of July, Valentine’s Day, Halloween, and Autumn, or even show their Sacramento Kings pride—all with a breathtaking light display.

A Perfect Canvas for Our Craft

The client’s property is nothing short of spectacular. Their landscaper has masterfully shaped every corner of their yard, from manicured Cherry and Japanese Maple trees to the stunning backdrop of sprawling oaks. The lighting we installed feels like the final brushstroke on a masterpiece.

Today, their lighting doesn’t just illuminate their property—it transforms it. The client can now enjoy a vibrant, dynamic, and cohesive system that highlights the beauty of their landscape and gives them the freedom to celebrate life’s moments in style.

Illuminations’ Owners Outdoor Lighting in Folsom

The Owners of Illuminations Landscape Lighting installed landscape lighting at our home when they started the business. The original system used Vista Professional Outdoor Lighting with two transformers and 45 fixtures. This was the old days—big cable and incandescent lamps. But it was beautiful!

About five years ago, they did a complete makeover using the FX Luminaire’s Luxor ZDC system with full zoning, dimming, and color control. They will never forget the first time they turned on the lights and watched one of the fixtures turn red. It was a new age of landscape lighting.

Since then, the owners have hosted several events showcasing the lighting so clients can learn more about the Luxor system. With various techniques, including wall lights, backlighting, wash lighting, up lighting, and path lighting, the layers of light wow everyone who enters the home.

El Dorado Hills Landscape Lighting Featuring a Putting Green

With over 70 fixtures and two transformers, this home features a fun putting green and a gorgeous pool backdrop. In fact, you’ll find their home on our company van! The clients value their home and yard, and the lighting makes it a true standout. The putting green was especially fun to light because it serves as a viewpoint from the kitchen window.

We loved working with these clients and were incredibly saddened by the passing of one of the owners not too long after the installation. We are grateful to have brightened their life while they were with us.

Outdoor Lighting for a Delightful Redwood Home in El Dorado Hills

A lakefront property, this stunning home features the most incredible views. Our landscape lighting system for this two-acre lot included about 80 lights, illuminating a deck overlooking the lake to create a safe and functional space. We also lit their putting green for the client to enjoy all night.

A standout feature of the project was the grand entrance we created with outdoor lighting. We used stair lighting and plenty of down lighting to illuminate their home’s pathway, including a striking water feature.

Loomis Landscape Lighting Featuring Koi Ponds

This client worked with us for years before starting this project in their new Loomis home. They followed us from their previous home in Fair Oaks. This Loomis home is one of the most stunning canvasses we’ve had the opportunity to work with.

We completely redid their old landscape lighting system, which was fabulous. A highlight of the project is the underwater lighting we used to illuminate their meandering koi ponds. The existing lighting wiring was done poorly, so there was quite a bit of troubleshooting and repair before we could even begin installing new lighting, but we got it done!

After the project, the wonderful clients hosted a big party with their friends and neighbors to show off their new landscape lighting. In fact, these photos are from that night! The clients were thrilled with the result, and we enjoy maintaining their property today.

Lakefront Landscape Lighting in El Dorado Hills

A one-and-a-half acre property overlooking Folsom Lake, this project is one of our all-time favorites. The views are spectacular! The client had 20+-year-old old, dilapidated lighting and was ready for a brand-new system.

With over 200 fixtures, the new outdoor lighting design featured the illumination of stairs, walkways, numerous plants, and a stunning outdoor fireplace and flag. A deer entered the backyard during the installation, and the client asked us to chase it off the property. One of our technicians, unfamiliar with deer, began running around with a broom. He was probably more scared than the deer, but it worked, and the deer scurried away.

The client gave us complete creative freedom to create a stunning landscape lighting design to complement their home. It’s always a joy when our clients trust in our process – it’s when the real magic happens.

Landscape Lighting in Granite Bay’s Los Lagos Neighborhood

This client had worked with us for many years as we repaired and maintained their existing landscape lighting. They enjoyed entertaining friends and family at their home, and with an impeccable home, they were looking to take their lighting to the next level.

We added about 30 lights to their current system, including new path lights that suited their property better than the previous short, small fixtures. We also replaced their halogen fixtures with LED bulbs, making their home considerably more energy efficient.

Our favorite part of the project is the relationship with the client over the years. One of the owners passed away not too long ago, and we will forever remember their kind and charming personality. It was a joy to illuminate their home and provide them with a beautiful place to relax and host their loved ones. These kinds of relationships are why we do what we do.

Lakeside Landscape Lighting in Elk Grove

After many years of maintaining this client’s landscape lighting, their system had reached the point where most lighting needed replacing. The beautiful Elk Grove property is unique, situated on a lake in Elk Grove. The client enjoys excursions on their pontoon boat in the evening, so functional lighting throughout the property was essential to them.

We installed FX Luminaire’s Luxor ZD system so the client could control the lights in different themes for their entertaining needs. Using this system, we also integrated some of their old lighting that was still in good shape. The lighting illuminated stunning wall art in the backyard and uplighting mature Palm Trees in the front.

It was a challenge to install lights under the retaining wall, spa, and fire pit construction that was already complete, but we found a way to retrofit the lighting. We mounted FX’s LF light under the stone walls, modifying the fixture and using heavy-duty glue to affix the lights. The results were spectacular!

New Landscaping and Outdoor Lighting in Sacramento

This Sacramento client redid their entire home’s landscaping and were referred to us by their landscape company. We designed a landscape lighting system for their front and backyard to replace old and outdated lighting.

The project included a total of about 70 fixtures and two transformers. With brand-new landscaping, the property featured exquisite plant material that was a joy to work with. We used various techniques to accentuate their home, including wash lighting on low-level plants and boulders, path lighting along walkways, and uplighting on multiple trees.

We completed the project in about a week, even when we had to quit early because of a helicopter search in the area. Landscape lighting always keeps us on our toes!

Front and Backyard Landscape Lighting Revamp in El Dorado Hills

This client came to us with a 20-year-old lighting system. They were remodeling their backyard and adding a new pool. The client is an interior designer looking for stylish lighting to complement the attractive features of their home.

We used 80 fixtures and four transformers to completely overhaul their front yard, courtyard, and backyard lighting. Their courtyard features a lovely color-changing water feature and plant material that can be seen from inside the house. Landscape lighting added another style element to their home’s exterior.

The client was thrilled with the result: “We arrived home to the beautiful vision of lighted trees that look like sculptures, so lovely to see from inside and out.”

Outdoor Lighting for a Family Home in Granite Bay

We started in the front yard for this client’s beautiful home in the Wedgewood development in Granite Bay. Our project began by removing 20-year-old lighting and designing a new landscape lighting system.

Some highlights included illuminating a retaining wall and highlighting boulders with wash lighting. There is also beautiful downlighting from several Oak trees and gorgeous uplighting on the Crepe Myrtles, Cherry, Oaks, and Japanese Maples.

One year later, we got a call from the client that they were ready to re-landscape and light their backyard. The backyard features a significant amount of downlighting. It was one of our technician’s first days on the job – he took on all the ladder work in the trees!

In total, there are 100+ fixtures in the front and back yards. The entire property is magical in the evening.

Holiday Colored Lighting
Lighting in Sacramento’s Arden Arcade Neighborhood

This client wanted a top-of-the-line system, so the Luxor ZDC with full color, zoning, and dimming control was the obvious choice. We used 76 FX Luxor ZD/ZDC fixtures, one Luxor transformer, and three satellite transformers with wireless linking modules.

The most unique part of the project was highlighting the peaks on the front of the house. We used three downlights on each peak and wash lights at the ground level to highlight and color the entire house. The result was excellent! We also used a top-of-the-line path light style with an antique-tumbled finish for an added special touch.

We set the client up themes to decorate for any occasion, including Christmas, 4th of July, Halloween, and St. Patrick’s Day. When the Sacramento Kings made the playoffs, we set up a unique Kings “Light the Beam” theme!

For added security, we scheduled the path lights to stay on all night while all the other lights went off at midnight.
